This McCordsville restaurant is the epitome of midtown down-home Midwest cookin’. Located just minutes northeast of Lawrence, Indiana and state capital Indianapolis, the Wagon Wheel Eatery restaurant is a favorite among McCordsville residents, whose number hovers right around 1,000. It’s the kind of place you can go to when you just want that old-fashioned, homey feeling of being well-fed by somebody’s grandma, preferably your own.
Wagon Wheel Eatery restaurant fans are quick to agree that the place isn’t much to look at. In fact, it has the happy reputation of being a hole in the wall restaurant in Indianapolis’ outer reaches, one of those places you miss if you blink.
But unless you keep your eyes and mind open, you’ll be missing some really good food, and excellent value. Just like in the sturdy covered-wagon days, portions are enormous at the Wagon Wheel, which serves up dishes of typical Americana delights that are usually enough for two people per plate.
Word around town is that their tenderloin platter and onion rings are simply not to be passed up, and well worth the drive from nearby Indy, Fishers, Fortville, Ingalls, Lawrence and Pendleton.
